Work

From a consent order

Upon the parties agreeing that the terms set out herein are accepted in full and final satisfaction of all claims for income, capital and pension sharing, it is ordered that…

In plain English

Once a judge approves this, neither of you can claim on the other’s money, home or pension again.

From a contract to buy a house

The Buyer is deemed to purchase with full knowledge of the state and condition of the Property and shall raise no requisition or objection in respect thereof.

In plain English

You’re buying the house as it is. If you want a survey, it has to happen before you exchange.

From a will

I hereby revoke all former wills and testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me and declare this to be my last will, and I appoint my executors and trustees as follows.

In plain English

This will cancels any will you made before, and names the people who will carry it out.

From a settlement agreement

The Employee accepts the Termination Payment in full and final settlement of all claims, under statute, common law or otherwise, that the Employee has or may have against the Company.

In plain English

Sign this, and you can’t take your employer to a tribunal over anything that has happened so far.

What it costs, in writing.

Fixed fees wherever the work allows, with VAT included. Court, Land Registry and search fees are passed on at cost, and we tell you what they will be before you start.

Where a fee can’t honestly be fixed, a contested court case say, you get an estimate for each stage and our hourly rates: £220 for a solicitor, £140 for a paralegal. We write to you before we go over it.
